Two Danish museology experts visit Quebec

From August 23 to 27 2026, seven museums in the municipalities of L’Islet, Kamouraska, and Rivière-du-Loup welcomed two specialists from Aarhus University in Denmark: Professors Ane Hejlskov Larsen and Vinnie Nørskov.

During their stay, the experts examined the realities faced by these institutions, which are seeking to develop a collaborative museology organizational model adapted to regional settings.

This initiative builds on a mission undertaken in October 2025 by the same group. The Quebec delegation brought together 14 museum professionals, administrators, and academics, including Professor Julie Bérubé, Chair of CREAT’s Culture in the regions Axis.

During a five-day seminar, delegation members explored Danish and Norwegian museum models through lectures, case-study presentations, and professional meetings held at various museum institutions. These valuable exchanges allowed them to observe first-hand how Nordic museums operate in regional settings and to gain a better understanding of their administrative structures.

With the guidance of the two Danish experts and the group’s knowledge of local realities, members will be able to compare their practices and explore possible directions for a sustainable development model for regional museums.

This latest step also helps strengthen collaborative ties with a part of the world that shares many cultural, economic, and political challenges with Quebec.
