F(R)ICTION: Art and Games — Laureline Chiapello and Video Game Art at the ELEKTRA International Digital Art Biennial
Until November 15, 2026, Arsenal Contemporary Art in Montréal is hosting the 8th ELEKTRA International Digital Art Biennial, which puts video games in the spotlight this year with the exhibition “F(R)ICTION: Art & Games”.
École NAD-UQAC is represented by Laureline Chiapello, professor and head of the CREAT Research Chair’s Digital Creativity research Axis. She is presenting “CLTRS”, a feminist artwork created in collaboration with students. A metaphor for female pleasure, the game invites players into an organic 3D world with rich, immersive visuals. It offers a contemplative experience that emphasizes curiosity, gentleness and attentive exploration.
“The video game industry remains predominantly led by men, and games are often built around their experiences, even implicitly,” Professor Chiapello explained in an interview with Le Devoir. “CLTRS” offers an alternative, affirming women’s place in creation and expression through the medium of video games.
Laureline Chiapello’s participation in the event has attracted considerable media interest. She has shared her expertise on art games in several interviews, which you can explore here.
