Climate Change and Inuit Art – “Silaup asitjivallianinga”

Climate change is profoundly transforming northern territories, altering landscapes, ways of life, and the relationships between people and their environment.

In “Silaup Asitjivallianinga”, artists Simon Walls and Joey Partridge explore these upheavals through an approach that blends art and science. Their work draws on environmental data documenting ice melt and permafrost thaw collected in Nunavik over more than 30 years, which they translate into sound and musical textures.

These compositions make climate transformations audible, giving a new voice to a nature in flux. “Silaup Asitjivallianinga” illustrates how artistic creation can become a tool for interpreting the world.
