International Exchange with ISCID Toulouse: Storytelling Through the Senses
As part of an international teaching and research residency, Professor Laureline Chiapello was invited as a visiting professor at the Institut Supérieur Couleur Image Design (ISCID), affiliated with Université Toulouse – Jean Jaurès (France), from April 6 to 17.
Specializing in graduate-level design education, ISCID is recognized for its interdisciplinary approach to contemporary image-making and creative practices. During her stay, students from the Animation et design sensoriel program took part in an intensive workshop led by Professor Chiapello. Focused on the creation of short adventure video games, the workshop introduced participants to object-oriented programming as well as the video game production pipeline. The resulting projects highlighted the participants’ creativity and sensitivity while demonstrating the richness of the dialogue between sensory design and interactive practices.
The visit also featured a public lecture entitled « Raconter avec les sens : la narration environnementale dans les mondes interactifs ». The presentation explored the connections between architecture, sensory design, experience design, and video game creation, offering a transdisciplinary reflection on contemporary forms of storytelling.
Finally, the residency gave rise to several discussions on current issues in design research and research-creation. These exchanges pave the way for potential international collaborations, notably with École NAD, further strengthening the visibility and impact of research and training activities.
