SSHRC funds structuring initiative in digital creativity at the CREAT Chair
Led by Laureline Chiapello, Professor at École NAD-UQAC and Head of the Digital Creativity Axis of the CREAT Chair, a SSHRC Connection Grant has been awarded to support a structuring event for the Chair. This funding will enable the deployment of an annual program dedicated to research-creation in digital creativity, a rapidly expanding field that plays a key role in contemporary social transformations.
This SSHRC Connection Grant is particularly significant as it strengthens the understanding and visibility of research-creation in the field of digital creativity, an area that remains frequently misunderstood or underrecognized despite its growing importance. By bringing together major partners such as the CREAT, Hexagram, the Behaviour Interactive Chair, and the Milieux Institute, the project establishes a strong interdisciplinary framework to address contemporary technological challenges, including social transformations, generative AI issues, algorithmic bias, and cultural mediation.
Through a program combining a conference, workshop, exhibition, scholarships, podcasts, and publications, this initiative creates essential spaces for training, dialogue, and dissemination. It supports emerging scholars and creators while fostering more critical, inclusive, and innovative digital practices.
Several events will be organized:
Interdisciplinary Conference — May 21–22, 2026
Introductory Workshop on Research-Creation — May 2026
Digital Art Exhibition — June 2026
REC Podcasts and Collective Publication — Late 2026/2027
