Students and Postdoctoral Fellows

Working with a researcher

CREAT offers a stimulating research environment where researchers, professionals, practitioners, and students collaborate on interdisciplinary projects linked to the Chair’s four axis: Culture in the regions, Arts and Health, Digital Creativity, and Discoverability.

This section presents the positions currently available within CREAT and its partner projects. These opportunities allow you to contribute to research and creative initiatives, gain experience in an intersectoral setting, and take part in the production and mobilization of knowledge that supports the creative economy and well-being.

Working with a CREAT researcher means joining a community where creativity, rigor, and collaboration come together to advance research and action.

CALL FOR RESEARCHER
Project in collaboration with Culture pour tous!

In response to the growing mental health challenges among youth, this pilot project leverages artistic co-creation and cultural mediation as drivers of well-being and social innovation. A multidisciplinary cohort of three artists will engage in a three-year initiative with partners from the Thérèse-De Blainville Youth Consortium to co-develop cultural mediation initiatives.

The Culture in the Regions Axis is partnering in the project to support its documentation and research development. To this end, the team is seeking a researcher interested in leading this collaborative project, with the support of research assistants (students).

Scholarship Programs by Research Stream

Process for awarding scholarships and financial support to students and postdoctoral fellows.

Scholarship Value

Each year, CREAT allocates approximately $200,000 to support projects led by students at all academic levels, as well as postdoctoral fellows.

The selection of recipients is carried out by the committees of each Axis. Individuals may submit only one (1) application per year, regardless of the research stream targeted.

Axis committees independently determine the number of awards, their duration, and the competition timelines. Competitions are renewed each year on April 1, through 2027.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the competitions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral program, or be conducting postdoctoral research at the home institution of a Chairholder or Co-Researcher of the Chair;
  2. Be supervised by, or carry out a project under the direction of, a CREAT member (Chairholders or Co-Researchers). Individuals supervised by a collaborator of the Chair may also apply but must ensure their eligibility by consulting the FRQ’s Common General Rules (CGR);
  3. Be a member of the CREAT Chair;
  4. Address a research theme related to the creative economy and well-being.

How to Apply

Axis committees determine the specific requirements that applications must meet in order to be considered eligible for the competitions.

Culture in the regions

Scholarship and Financial Assistance Programs

The Culture in the Regions Axis actively supports research and training focused on arts and culture outside major urban centres. To promote excellence, mobility, and stronger connections with regional cultural communities, the research stream offers three scholarship and financial assistance programs for students at all academic levels.

Excellence Scholarships
This program recognizes the quality and relevance of master’s and doctoral research projects focused on culture or the arts in regional contexts. Excellence Scholarships support projects grounded in regional realities and supervised by members of the Culture in the Regions Axis. Awards are granted based on the scientific merit of the project, its consideration of regional specificities, and the excellence of the applicant’s academic record.

Excellence Scholarships

Mobility Scholarships
Mobility Scholarships are designed to facilitate student participation in conferences, congresses, and scholarly events related to culture in the regions. They provide reimbursement for eligible expenses (travel, accommodation, registration fees), as well as a per diem for meals. This program promotes knowledge dissemination, networking, and the visibility of research on culture in the regions, in Québec and beyond.

Mobility Scholarships

Partnership Scholarships – Regional Research Residencies
This program supports the development of research or research-creation residencies in regional settings, carried out in partnership with artist-run centres or cultural organizations. Open to students at all academic levels, these non-credit residencies aim to strengthen ties between the academic and professional sectors while offering a concrete experience rooted in regional contexts. The Culture in the Regions Axis and the partner organization jointly contribute to the financial support and supervision of participants.
